Introduction to Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns. In comparative grammar, we compare differences between two or more objects.
නාම විශේෂණ යනු නාම පද විස්තර කරන හෝ වෙනස් කරන පද වේ. සංසන්දනාත්මක ව්යාකරණයේදී, අපි වස්තු දෙකක් හෝ වැඩි ගණනක් අතර වෙනස්කම් සංසන්දනය කරමු.
Degrees of Comparison
There are three degrees of comparison: positive, comparative, and superlative.
සංසන්දනය කිරීමේ අංශ තුනක් තිබේ: සරල, සංසන්දනාත්මක, සහ උත්තම.

Rules for Forming Comparatives and Superlatives
1. Adding -er and -est
For one-syllable adjectives and some two-syllable adjectives:
Positive: tall -> Comparative: taller -> Superlative: tallest
Positive: small -> Comparative: smaller -> Superlative: smallest
2. Using More and Most
For adjectives with three or more syllables:
Positive: beautiful -> Comparative: more beautiful -> Superlative: most beautiful
Positive: intelligent -> Comparative: more intelligent -> Superlative: most intelligent
3. Irregular Forms
Some adjectives have completely irregular forms:
Positive: good -> Comparative: better -> Superlative: best
Positive: bad -> Comparative: worse -> Superlative: worst
Positive: far -> Comparative: farther/further -> Superlative: farthest/furthest
Examples in Sentences
Positive Degree:
My house is big. (මගේ ගෙය විශාල ය)
This flower is beautiful. (මේ මල සුන්දර ය)
Comparative Degree:
Your house is bigger than my house. (ඔබේ ගෙය මගේ ගෙට වඩා විශාල ය)
This flower is more beautiful than that one. (මේ මල ඒ මලට වඩා සුන්දර ය)
Superlative Degree:
His house is the biggest in the neighborhood. (ඔහුගේ ගෙය ප්රදේශයේ ඇති ඉතා විශාලම ගෙය ය)
This is the most beautiful flower in the garden. (මෙය ගෙවත්තේ ඇති ඉතා සුන්දරම මල ය)
